Abstract
Fiber dispersion in standard single mode fiber (SSMF) limits the maximum delivery distance for the optical millimeter (mm)‐wave signals generated by double sideband modulation and vestigial sideband filtering. We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel scheme to generate mm‐wave signals without dispersion limitation. The power penalty for 2.5‐Gbit/s mm‐wave signals carried by 40‐GHz radio‐frequency after transmission over 80‐km SSMF is smaller than 0.5 dB. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
