β¦ Synopsis
A generalized treatment is presented for several basic types of reaction conducted in a fixed-bed plug-flow reactor (FBPFR) under conditions of forced periodic oscillations of feed compositions. The model reactions are adsorptiondesorption types with Eley-Bideal surface kinetics. For nonlinear kinetics, there is a significant improvement in the time-averaged production rate relative to optimal steady-state operation. For linear kinetics, there is no improvement.
