✦ Synopsis

Charge carrier injection into insulators is described by diffusion in the potential due to the image charge and the applied electric field. Generation of thermalized charge carriers is allowed for at the interface and in the bulk The recombination velocity is introduced explicitly into the model. Comparison with expe,riments shows that holes are genarzted in a thermalizzd state at the uppermost mokcular layer of aromatic hydrocarbon c-vstals when created by redox ions, excited dye mol-e&es, and at metal contacts in the dark.
