β¦ Synopsis
A generalized Β―ux law, which can specialize into power-and diusive-type Β―ux laws, is proposed. When coupled with the continuity equation, a generalized Β―ow equation is the result. The generalized equation specializes into several cases, one of which is the kinematic wave equation. By applying the generalized Β―ow equation and its variants to Β―ow routing in two rivers, the usefulness of the generalized Β―ux law is evaluated.

The continuous thickening of a solid-liquid suspension by gravity sedimentation is analyzed as an initial-boundary value problem of a nonlinear conservation equation. The concept of a limiting flux, commonly employed in steady state design, emerges as an intrinsic nonlinear phenomenon induced by non
Uniqueness of a generalized entropy solution (g.e.s.) to the Cauchy problem for N-dimensional scalar conservation laws u t +div x ,(u)= g, u(0, } )= f with continuous flux function , is still an open problem. For data ( f, g) vanishing at infinity, we show that there exist a maximal and a minimal g.
A flux limiter based on characteristic variables is extended by a control volume flux formulation to approximate the convection term at the cell interface for an essentially third-order-accurate scheme. The basic algorithm uses implicit MUSCL-type flux splitting and the approximate factorization met
