โœฆ Synopsis

By generalizing the conservation of energy statement in classical mechanics, a useful and relatively simple approach has been developed for checking the conservation requirements in รฟnite element analysis. By way of illustration several examples are provided from รฟelds of stress analysis, heat transfer and uid ow.

## Abstract This special issue of __The Anatomical Record__ presents a series of papers that apply the method of finite element analysis (FEA) to questions in vertebrate biomechanics. These papers are salient examples of the use of FEA to test hypotheses regarding structureโ€function relationships i

A two-dimensional transient finite element model capable of simulating problems related to two-layer polymer flows has been developed. This technique represents an effective tool which can be used to study the possibility of the onset of interfacial instability in coextrusion flows, considering melt

In the technology of oil recovery, oil production rate can be increased by generation of a vertical conductive fracture adjacent to the well-bore. In this paper the seepage flow and isothermal deformation in both the oil formation and the fracture are studied by modelling the formation as a two-dime

This paper presents a variation of Biot's consolidation theory for analysing problems involving unsaturated soils, and implemented using the "nite element method. The numerical method is applied to a few geotechnical problems as examples and the results obtained are compared to some published data.

The purpose of the paper is twofold: ยฎrstly to show that a very large range of ยฎnite element linear and nonlinear computations have been conducted without the use of quadrature; secondly to present some of the prerequisites that have been used in order to accomplish this task. Although some of the r
