✦ Synopsis

A direct density matrix formulation of the phenomenological Bloch equations for the three-level maser is given, and an analytic solution of the steady stnte case derived. Application to speciti cases leads to a new distinction between population and polarisation parameters, and to general expressions for double resonance line amplitudes and widths.

In this paper, an algorithm for the numerical in¨estigation of the generalized slot line ha¨ing a polygonal cross section is proposed. Solution of the eigenmode problem is based on the method, called the domain product technique, which employs a Mathieu function expansion. A good agreement between t
