✦ Synopsis

The sum-squeezing concept first introduced by Hillery for two modes is generalized to an arbitrary number of modes. The relationship between the input general multimode sum-squeezing and output normal squeezing is derived. The Ž . dependence of sum-squeezing on modal squeezing as well as the connection with the su 1,1 symmetry group are also studied.
