The small quantities of phosphorus contained in wrought iron and steel, exists probably as the same phosphide found in pig iron disseminated in granular particles.

The fact that relatively more manganese is found in the residue than in the original pig iron, tends to demonstrate a stronger affinity of phosphorus for manganese than for iron. G. A. K.
