Heme oxygenase (HO) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the catabolism of heme to biliverdin, carbon monoxide (CO), and free iron. The enzyme exists as a constitutive isoform (HO-2) and an inducible isoform (HO-1), which is also a stress protein (HSP32). HO-1 has previously been shown to be associated wi
