Experimental evidence is given to show that the yield of carriers bulk excited by X rays in films of poly-N-vinylcarbazole is dominated by geminate (initial) recombination of the electron-hole pairs. This mechanism has been verified for high pressure gases and some liquids, but this is the first unambiguous confirmation of geminate carrier recombination in a low mobility solid. The carrier yield versus applied field curve also allows an estimate of about GOA for fhe thermalization length cf the hot electrons. '_ . . .'. '. . .
