✦ Synopsis
The geminate recombination of iodine atoms in liquid carbon tetrachkkde has been modeled theoretrcally using the generalized Langevin model of Adelman, which accounts for the cage effect, and allotting for electronically inelastic transitions between various 12 potential curves by the semiciass~al model used earlier by us. The results show that electronic inelasticity is an important feature (providing a factor of 2 or greater change in rhc recombination probability) of the recombrnation process They are also in excellent agreement with avakble experunental results 1 _ Introduction Iodine recombination in liquids has attracted considerable attention during the Iast decade. The development of picosecond spectroscopy has allowed the monitoring of the early dynamics of the recombination process and Its dependence on a vanety of solvents [l-S] _ TheareticalIy. recombrnation is one of the srmplest 'chemical reactions"
