✦ Synopsis
The yields of electrons (or cations) generated by the stepwisc two-photon laser gas-phase photoionization of 2,S-diphenylfuran and 1 ,bbeniranthracene and the rate constants of volume electron-cation recombination in a polyatomic buffer gas (pentane) have been measured. Geminate recombination has been found to take place and the cage escape probability has been determined. For pressures of pentane greater than 200 Torr, volume recombination has been shown to be of the Langevm type.

## Abstract A new design for an electron capture detector cell is described. The cell is compatible with the requirements of high resolution capillary columns and is shown to be useful in applications that require high analysis speed. A unique method of sample introduction reduces the problems of s
