✦ Synopsis
Pigments ', Feb 2002, 1-3, comparing 2001 against 2000, Millennium's TiO 2 pigment sales dropped by 11%, while Kronos reported a drop of 8% in its sales volume. In early Dec 2001, Kerr-McGee assessed the decline in global pigment consumption at 10%. Huntsman Tioxide reported a 9% fall in sales revenue (in US dollar terms), indicating a drop of around 5% in its global sales volume. In advance of compiling its fully detailed world TiO 2 pigment trade and consumption matrices, Artikol estimates world TiO 2 pigment consumption at 3.74 M tonnes in 2001, representing a 7% fall from the 2000 level. By contrast, in the latest issue of its 'Mineral Sands Report' (Feb 2002), TZMI showed a decline in world TiO 2 pigment consumption of only 3.8% for last year. Partly based on that assessment, 'Industrial Minerals' commented: "Estimates have placed overall TiO 2 consumption for 2001 as having dropped 4-6% from 2000." The truth is probably grimmer than that!
