The Yang-Mills theory restricted by spherical symmetry is investigated in view of the problem of gauge fixing. We show that-in contrast to the Coulomb gauge-an extended Schwinger gauge provides a completely consistent representation of gauge orbits with trivial winding number without any Gribov sing
