We derive all covariant and consistent divergence and commutator anomalies of chiral QED 2 within the framework of canonical quantization of the fermions. After having justified the gauge invariant version of the chiral Schwinger model we perform canonical quantization via Dirac brackets. The constraints are First class, exhibiting gauge invariance.
As a result we find that this is the reason for the consistency of the model of Jackiw and Rajaraman.
