earlier, the real merit of this type of book is that the reader clearly gets opinions as opposed to the more neutral and balanced type of discussion usually found in peer-reviewed journals. The recent publication of the proceedings of another meeting in Quebec covers some of the same ground. Nonetheless, I would recommend this volume for investigators in the field, for clinical hepatologists and for those individuals who have done research in hepatic encephalopathy in the past. The last group should read this book to keep up the high level of criticism they apply when reviewing journal articles submitted by active investigators.
