Garlock Sealing Technologies has launched Multi-Swell, a gasket material that increases the sealing force when it comes into contact with oil or water.
The material can be used in oil or water, and will adapt to many types of flange design. It can therefore be used in a broad range of applications at a cost comparable to conventional gasket materials. 'It's been documented that more than 70% of all gasket failures are due to lack of load,' says Tim Hurley, Garlock product manager. 'Multi-Swell generates and maintains its own load. It works well even in combination with flanges in poor condition or flanges designed for soft, low performance gaskets.'
