โฆ Synopsis
The gasification reactivities of three coal chars at 0.098-2.45 MPa and 1023-1273 K with steam were investigated using a packed-bed balance reactor. The base carbon conversion X and specific gasification rate B of the three coal chars increased with increasing pressure and temperature. Assessed by X, B and rate constant K, the reactivity decreased in the order lignitous coal char > gas coal char > lean coal char, that is, the reactivity was inversely related to the rank of the parent coal.

Nickel-catalysed steam gasification was examined for two Japanese and three German coals which had been pretreated with liquid ammonia. Reaction temperatures range from 923 to 1123 K. The greatest enhancement in reactivity by ammonia treatment and 1 wt % nickel loading was observed for Leopold coal.
