## Abstract The effect of trialkylsulfonium __versus__ quaternaryalkylammonium ions on the multistage gasโ€phase fragmentation reactions of side chain, fixedโ€charge, cysteineโ€containing peptides has been examined in a quadrupole linear ion trap. These tandem mass spectrometry experiments reveal that
