Ab initio techniques inclusive of electron correlation (MP2) are used to study the gas-phase dimerization of water tetramers (T) into octamers (0), which is relevant to a model for the specific heat of liquid water. The T species has one basic structure, whereas three different conformations for the

Collision experiments are reported for the generation and characterization of the neutral and cationic SisO, molecule. In addition to the experimental character&ion of Si202, high-level ab initio calculations ( CCSD (T ) /PVTZ//MP2/6-3 11 G (df ) ) have been performed in order to support the experimental findings. The study reveals that the global minimum on both cationic and neutral surfaces corresponds to a bicyclic rhombohedric structure.

Ab initio molecular orbital calculations at the Gl level have been used to examine the structure and relative stabilities of the H#ZOSi+ molecular ions. Our results show that the two most stable species correspond to a distonic and to a non-d&tonic ion, the former being 6.7 kcal/mol more stable than
Semiempirical AM1, MNDO-PM3, and MNDO/M, as well as ab initio Hartree-Fock and Moller-Plesset calculations using the 4-31G, 6-31G(d,p), and 6-31 +G(d,p) basis sets have been done on the water-assisted addition of water to formaldehyde. Ab initio methods predict a reduction of 30% of the bimolecular
