โœฆ Synopsis

Quantitative analyses o f a b s c i s i c acid (ABA) in different parts of maize r o o t tips (Zea mays L. cv. K e l v e d o n 33) were p e r f o r m e d by mass fragmentography using the h e x a d e u t e r a t e d analog of A B A as internal standard. It was found that the cap and the apex contained 36.1 gg and 66.5 lag A B A kg t fresh weight, respectively. The possibility that the g r o w t h regulator f o r m e d in the cap and inhibiting the elongation of the extending zone of the r o o t is A B A is discussed.

The occurrence and distribution of abscisic acid (ABA), xanthoxin (Xa) and the carotenoid violaxanthin (Va) were investigated in root tips of maize (Zea mays L. cv. Merit). In roots grown in the dark, Va and ABA were present in relatively high amounts in the root cap and in low amounts in the adjace

Because both abscisic acid (ABA) and auxin (IAA) have been suggested as possible chemical mediators of differential growth during root gravitropism, we compared with redistribution of label from applied 3H-IAA and 3H-ABA during maize root gravitropism and examined the relative basipetal movement of
