✦ Synopsis
A micro-scale quantitative method for low-molecular-weight monocarboxylic (C,-C,) and dicarboxylic (C&C,) acids in permanganate oxidation products of humic substances (kerogen) was established. The oxidation products were butylated by n-butanol in the presence of concentrated sulphuric acid in a small (l-ml) glass tube. The butyl esters were extracted with 400 ~1 n-hexane and then determined by capillary gas chromatography. The relative standard deviation for the analysis of formic, acetic and C2-C5 dicarboxylic acids from an humic substance (kerogen) was less than 14%.
