✦ Synopsis
Gas atomisation is the established technology for generation of rapidly solidified powder particulate for consolidation into bulk products for property evaluation and engineering applications. This invited contribution reviews progress in this area for aluminium alloys over the past 5 years, with particular attention to the following aspects:
• effect of powder particle size fraction on properties,
• oxide and degassing effects, • achievement of strength targets at room and elevated temperatures, • development of creep resistance and superplastic behaviour, • dispersoid coarsening kinetics at elevated temperatures,
• enhanced wear and damping performance.
