Rottev's group of inferpectoral lyniph-nodes was found in 46% of altogefher 530 patients subjected to radical mastectomy. In 12%-a by no means negligible 8guve-these lymph-nodes had been invaded by caiic~r cells.
Invasion of the Rotter chain is almost always linked with invasion of the axillary or internal mammary chains. There is a direct correlaiion between tumour size and invasion of the Rotter chain. Tumours ofthe kft half of the breast give rise to metastases in the iritevpectoval chain niore commonly than tirniouvs located on the iriternal or central aspects of fhe breast.
