✦ Synopsis
Saturated polyesters containing tetrachloro-¢-phthalate units were prepared, purified and then subjected to y-radiation in a 6°Co cell for various doses up to 236"448 Mrad, in air, in nitrogen and under vacuum (10-4-10 -~ mmHg).
Considerable dehydrohalogenation together with systematic slight increase in acid value take place upon irradiation in nitrogen or under vacuum indicating slight degradation of the polyester chains. In addition, thermogravimetric analyses of the polymers before and after irradiation have shown that some crosslinking takes place upon irradiation in cacuo.
