✦ Synopsis

Galvanostatic

Apjt curves recorded at instantaneous changes in current density are examined in the case of the irreversible electrode process, whose rate is determined by the slow discharge step. Corresponding equations, taking into account the current consumption for double layer charging, the basic electrochemical reaction and the accompanying adsorption process, are deduced.

The examination of the Ap/t oscillograms taken at instantaneous changes in the current density points to the absence of any side processes complicating the hydrogen ion discharge on the copper amalgamated electrode in 1 M HCI. In the redox reaction of chloroplatinite and chloroplatinate ion on platinum, the occurrence of the limiting electrochemical steps is complicated by the side adsorption processes.

The conclusion is drawn that in the cathodic and anodic processes, it is PtCl,-and PtC1,3-ions that play major part and not the PtC1,2-and PtCl, 2-ions numerically prevailing in the solution.

The slopes be and bA have been established for the p/log i curves obtained with the system PtCl,Z-/ PtC&z-.
