โœฆ Synopsis

As higher levels of modifier are employed in supercritical fluid extraction, selectivity is diminished. This work discusses several strategies for improving selectivity in the extraction of digoxin from Digitalis lanata leaves. The three strategies for improving selectivity which were studied include the use of alternative fluids, inclusion of a pre-extraction step, and selective rinsing of the solid phase trap. Advantages were realized with each technique, and it was concluded that they should be used in conjection with one another in order to maximize selectivity.
