## Abstract We show experimental performance comparison of different equalization methods in erbiumβdoped optical amplifiers based on silica and ZBLAN host materials. Different configurations are analyzed, including the analysis of hybrid silica/ZBLAN configurations, exploring gain, bandwidth, and

Abstract
In this paper, we compare the use of various field approximations of modal fields for gain calculations in erbiumβdoped fibers. Our results show that the use of an appropriately chosen rectangular approximation leads to simple analytical expressions for the gain characteristics, and still retains sufficient accuracy.βΒ© 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ## Abstract A new design of an allβoptical gainβclamped erbiumβdoped fiber amplifier is demonstrated. The amplifier is based on the conventional ring cavity, where the gain is clamped at 21.84 dB via optical feedback using a single fiber Bragg grating for an input signal power as high as β8 dBm.βΒ©
In this paper we have proposed a novel technique of gain flattening of erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) in which a long period grating is written in the erbium doped fiber (EDF) itself. The salient feature of the proposed technique is that in addition to usual gain flattening, there is an enhance
Dynamic gain fluctuations in a ring-laser gainclamped EDFA submitted to WDM traffic fluctuations are experimentally investigated. We measured the effect of relaxation oscillations that build up with laser action upon the BER on a 10-Gb/s optical transmission. Power penalties up to 1 dB are observed
