Abstract

The separation of the water‐soluble auxins of immature kernels of Zea mays cv. Kelvedon Glory, by column chromatography on silica gel was investigated. The relative growth‐promoting properties of the zeanin YZ fraction in relation to Avena coleoptiles and on cress roots, were investigated. It is suggested that the properties of zeanins could be explained if they were N‐(indole‐3‐acetyl)‐carbamoyl derivatives of carbohydrates.

Auxin activity was detected in honeydew obtained from the aphid Tuberolachnus salignus (Gmelin) feeding on willow (Salix viminalis). Active uptake of 14C-indolyl-3-acetic acid (IAA) into the sieve tubes was demonstrated by irrigating the cambial surface of willow bark with 14C-IAA solution and assay

Seed maturation of Pisum sativum cv. Progress No. 9 proceeds more slowly in winter than in summer even when the parent plants are grown in greenhouse conditions with light-and heat-supplementation. For parent plants grown under "summer" and "winter" conditions the metabolism of [3H]GA9 in cultured s
