✦ Synopsis
A study has been made of the effect of the presence of surfactant in binder mucilage on the granules and compacts of D. metel powder (DMP). The mean size, friability, sinking times and flow property of the granules have been measured. Bigger and less friable granules were produced with the presence of surfactants due to increased wettability of the hydrophobic D. metel powder (DMP). The flow rate increased while the angle of repose decreased with the presence of surfactants and increase in surfactant concentration. Inclusion of surfactant resulted in the production of weaker compacts with a reduction in disintegration times. The improved wetting of the powder resulted in the decrease in disintegration times.
