✦ Synopsis

I n a recent publication Trostaiietzky ( '28) describes and shows in five text figures (pp. 462-467) c ~l l s in the myeiiteric aiid submucoiis plexuses which he clesignates glia cells. Lawrentjew, 011 the other hand, in a paper dated Xay, 1929, maintains that these small cells are neither ordiiiary coiincctive tissue (Johiison, %) nor glia, but are the cell bodies which give rise to a fine primitive network. I n addition to this small iicrve net, Lawrentjew recognizes two t g e s of large ganglion cells whose processes form a large part of tlic myeiitcric plexus. The distribution of submucous neurons that project to the myenteric plexus of the guinea pig small intestine was established by retrograde transport of the carbocyanine dye 1,1Ј-didodecyl-3,3,3Ј,3Ј-tetramethyl indocarbocyanine perchlorate (DiI) from myenteric ganglia in organ culture in combination
