The loss of small intestinal mucosal surface area is a relatively common clinical situation seen in both the pediatric and adult population. The most frequent causes include mesenteric ischemia, trauma, inflammatory bowel disease, necrotizing enterocolitis, and volvulus. Following surgical resection
