the first Colorado Tourism Leadership Conference was held at the Adams Mark Hotel in Denver, Colorado, USA. Over 75 of the state's tourism leaders met to exchange ideas and discuss the critical issues facing the tourism industry in Colorado. The catalyst for the conference was the setback Colorado tourism suffered when the voters defeated the renewal of the tourism tax for Colorado tourism promotion. Opponents of the tourism tax say the voters have spoken and have voted against tourism. Proponents of the tourism tax say that many of the voters did not understand the issues and/or the ballot verbage. The tourism tax was defeated and Colorado is the only state in the USA without a state tourism promotional organization.
