The present economic climate is forcing medical librarians to look at supplementary sources of income and actively to seek funds on behalf of their libraries outside their institutions. This paper looks at fund raising for medical libraries and describes the fund‐raising activities of the Friends of the Library at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland
