โฆ Synopsis
Data which have the form of functions appear frequently as results of registration and measurement, of course also in biometry. This book presents a complete methodology for the statistical handling of such data, beginning with registration and representation. Various methods of smoothing play an important role, where particular emphasis is given to regularisation. Another important statistical method is principal component analysis (pca), which tries to solve analogous problems as classical pca in multivariate statistics. Also differentiation of empirical functions and relationships to differential equations are discussed.
This is an excellent, well written book for applied statisticians, in a similar style as Silverman's successful book on density estimation.
