β¦ Synopsis
In contrast to the 12 minutes needed for point-of-care analysis, a state-of-the-art centralized laboratory requires approximately 10 minutes for centrifugation and 30 to 35 minutes for analysis of hematological and coagulation variables that are requested by current guidelines. 3 Moreover, point-of-care laboratory examination increases efficiency at crucial interfaces, as the tests are performed by the same individuals who examine and treat the stroke patient. After further technical improvements, point-of-care laboratory examination could represent the fastest strategy. However, these potential advantages await testing in future studies that directly compare both innovative solutions.
