✦ Synopsis

An image of future power system which has introduced superconducting (SC) generator, cable, transformer, fault current limiter, SMES, etc. is presented. Conceptual designs of each SC power apparatus are carried out. In this system, the superconducting cable utilizes the high Tc superconductor (HTS) cooled by liquid N 2. Other devices use low temperature superconductor cooled by liquid He.

INTRODUC~ON

Recently, the development of AC superconducting wire is progressing steadily, and its practical applications are going to be realized. Some design works and fabrications of experimental models are progressing. However, as for a conductor, still more studies should be done for the smaller AC losses and the larger current capacity, etc.. In addition, the investigation of the optimal conductor shape is essential. For a better R&D of a future superconducting power system, a well-balanced investigation on the conductor, machines, and system would be important. In this paper, a conceptual design of each machine and an image of the future superconducting power system are presented.
