โฆ Synopsis
Fuel cells represent an exciting . . . technology for the next decade" is very much the theme for the proceedings of the Grove Anniversary Fuel Cell Symposium held at the Royal Institution, London in September 1989. This book contains a collection of 22 papers presented at the conference on a range of relevant areas, and is a hardback version of the Journal of Power Sources volume covering the event. Contributions are drawn from both industry and public research institutes, from Japan, Europe, Canada and the United States.
The 150th anniversary of Grove's gaseous voltaic cell coincides fittingly with the emergence of the fuel cell as a viable commercial power source. A brief history of the development of fuel cells from that date introduces the major types of fuel cells of interest, today. Possible applications and market analyses of the various systems are discussed, and the potential high efficiency of fuel cells in comparison to conventional power sources is highlighted, especially in relation to the goal of reduction of global CO, emissions. The papers in this book cover both the state of development of the fuel cell stack itself and the power generating system as a whole.
The phosphoric acid fuel cell is the most extensively covered system in the papers, since this is the fuel cell nearest
