The structure of monolayer CH2D2 adsorbed on NaCl ( 100) is explored through the photometry of the polarized infrared spectra. A previous study of CH, on NaCl ( 100) was unable to distinguish between two methane conformations within the monolayer. One conformation is the tripod with three hydrogens
The tunneling frequencies of CH, adsorbed on NaCl( 100) and LiF( 100) are computed as a function of molecular field strength. The tunneling frequencies are computed for both the dipod and tripod orientation of the methane molecules. For CH4 adsorbed on NaCl, the tripod orientation is likely.
