✦ Synopsis
This issue focuses on recent advances and developments in the field of spaceborne imaging systems. Developments in visible and infrared detector technology, data processing, and microwave components have led to revolutionary advances in remote sensing across the electromagnetic spectrum of planetary surfaces and atmospheres.
In the visible and near infrared, CCD arrays and integrated electronics have allowed development of advanced digital cameras, very-high-resolution compact systems, and highly calibrated systems. These are discussed in the articles by Reilly et al., Malin et al., and Diner et al. With more sensitive detector arrays, imaging spectroscopy is becoming more mature, with sensors capable of sensing many tens to many
