This issue focuses on recent advances and developments in the field of spaceborne imaging systems. Developments in visible and infrared detector technology, data processing, and microwave components have led to revolutionary advances in remote sensing across the electromagnetic spectrum of planetary surfaces and atmospheres.

In the visible and near infrared, CCD arrays and integrated electronics have allowed development of advanced digital cameras, very-high-resolution compact systems, and highly calibrated systems.
