✦ Synopsis
From the (Former) Editor "One More TimeÏ If you read this page regularly, you should remember that I said my goodbyes in the last issue, but in view of the fact that this is being written while I still hold the position of Editor-in-Chief (early November 1997), it seemed appropriate that I present a few more thoughts on my tenure.
The Ðrst order of business is to remind you of my introduction, last issue, of the new Editor-in-Chief, Rene Van Grieken of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Antwerp in Belgium. I have known Professor Doctor Van Grieken for many years, long before our association with X-ray Spectrometry. He has been an active worker in x-ray analysis, and a strong contributor to the Ðeld. As one of the driving forces behind the European EDXRF Conference (formerly called a Workshop), he has been instrumental in arranging for the publication of selected papers from that meeting in our Journal. I am sure that he will continue to excel in the Ðeld that occupies a great deal of our thoughts, and that he will be a worthy successor to the two of us, Ron Jenkins and myself, who have guided XRS through its Ðrst 26 years.
Next, I should like to introduce the News Editor, Dr John Sieber, who has taken over the position formerly held by Dr Peter Pella, both with regard to the Journal and the XRF program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Dr Siever joined NIST this past summer, after several years at the Texaco R & D Center, which he joined after Ðnishing his graduate work at the University of Maryland. I have known John for some years also, having Ðrst met him when my daughter (if you will excuse a somewhat personal note) was a fellow graduate student at that institution. It was at the Denver X-ray Conference that Professor Van Grieken asked Dr Sieber to take on the responsibility of News Editor, and John accepted. Now it is time to Ðnally take my leave. I intend to continue to be a part of the Editorial Board to provide whatever assistance I can provide. The new Editor-in-Chief has agreed that it would be appropriate for me to continue on the Advisory Board, as Dr Jenkins did when he turned the helm over to me. It has been a very good 12 years, from my point of view ; I hope that at least some of the readers beneÐted from the e †orts I put forth.
