✦ Synopsis

In this system demonstration two software applications will be shown. One application turns plain text biodiversity literature (using Flora of North America as an example) into semantically annotated documents in XML. The second application turns the XML annotations to a RDF triple store and provides query capabilities to allow a user to search a volume of Flora of North America by biological characters and not simple keywords. For example, a user can find taxa that are a member of Asteraceae family with conservation concerns, grow along ditches in Arizona, and with pink flowers and toothed leaves.
