This keynote paper is the report of a working group of CIRP-members on Innovation. Considering the real effort made by the public authorities to "creating a favorable climate" for research transfer, the question is raised as t o the reason of the relatively poor transfer of research into new products; many research products do not reach the stage of "industrial credibility".
