✦ Synopsis
rain bands with greater levels of detail it should be possible to consider warnings for smaller stream and river catchment areas, although small changes from run to run suggest perfect accuracy will remain elusive and this needs to be taken on board in the interpretation of model output.
Thanks to Ewen McCallum, Paul Davies and Martin Young for comments and advice, and to the British Geological Survey for the use of photographs. Thanks also to the Met Office National Climate Information Centre for the map of rain-gauge locations and amounts, and to reviewers for additional comments and suggestions.
