✦ Synopsis

Present understanding of cellular structure in gaseous detonations is used to interpret observations in liquid explosives. Dark waves, failure waves, and wall traces are examined and brought into full accord. The origin and growth of failure waves are explained on the basis of transverse motion and reflection of the triple-wave intersections characteristic of cellular structures.

## Abstract It is demonstrated that in a case where neither the proton nor the natural‐abundance ^13^C‐satellite spectra of a partially oriented molecule carry enough structural information, one can determine the entire molecular geometry by the combined use of several liquid crystals as solvents.
