Nonlinear behaviour of electron plasma waves propagating in a planar plasma-loaded waveguide immersed in an infinite magnetic field is analysed including finite temperature and mobile ion effects. It is shown that the wave becomes modulationally unstable if the wavenumber exceeds certain critical va

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The frequency response of self‐similar structures may exhibit sharp transmission peaks inside high‐attenuation frequency bands. The similarity dimension and lacunarity of such structures are used as key parameters for designing new selective planar microwave filters. Comparisons between the performances of periodic and self‐similar planar microwave filters are presented. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
