✦ Synopsis

The free vibration problem of rectangular plates with an arbitrary straight line support is treated by using the Rayleigh-Ritz method with products of polynomials as the admissible functions. The numerical results are presented for various diagonally supported plates, cantilever plates with an oblique support and diagonally supported orthotropic cantilever plates. For isotropic square plates, nodal patterns are also presented.

The Rayleigh-Ritz method is used, with simple polynomials as admissible functions, to obtain the eigenvalue equation for the free vibration of a rectangular plate which has an internal line support lying along a line describable in terms of a general polynomial. Numerical and graphical results are p

In this paper, an accurate analytical type solution for the free vibration of clamped rectangular plates with line support along the diagonals, corner-to-corner, is developed by the superposition method. A modification of line support, as established earlier, is used and convergence tests are carrie

An analy'ical sol'tion based on the superposition method is developed for the first time for the free vibration of the title problem. While it will be seen that the line support is replaced by point supΨ±rorts, convergence tests show that a limited number of point supports provide exceflent solution
