โœฆ Synopsis

approach is offered by W. Kendall McNabney, MD, in a related editorial entitled ~'Predictable Quality."

We expect discussion of the role of FECs in emergency medical care to continue. Still to be answered are some Critical questions: Will the American Board of Emergency Medicine give practice credit for the practice-eligible candidate who works only in an FEC? Will ACEP and UAEM develop guidelines for FECs, both as educational resources and as providers of emergency care? What role will FECs have in the training of emergency medicine residents? Will FECs be integrated into the whole of residency training?

While we publish this material to stimulate further discussion of the issues surrounding the phenomenon of free-standing emergency clinics, it should be made clear that the opinions expressed in each of these articles are those of the authors, and not of the Annals Editorial Board, ACER or UAEM.
