Fragmentation of unsaturated photcadduct derivatives 5 and 8 with (n-Bu)@H, (C,H,),SnH or SmI, generally gives mixtures of regioisomers.
Sml, is the reagent of choice for these transformations because the yields me high (>90%) and with e&xx &t/b only one isomer, Ilalb, is obtained.
