✦ Synopsis

Experimental data are presented for the variation with temperature and composition of a lithium borate glass doped with Li2SO 4. A statistical mechanical theory of conductivity is developed based on the assumption that Li20 and Li2SO 4 behave as weak electrolytes which dissociate to provide free Li + ions and high ionic conductivity. The agreement between the theoretical results and the experimental data is good for physically reasonable values of the parameters that characterize the theory.
